Kimberly Guilfoyle is under growing suspicion that she provided access to Trump administration officials in exchange for money.

US President Donald Trump’s ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has resigned following a series of allegations of misconduct, including giving political donors access to senior government officials in exchange for money.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign,” White House press secretary Katie Zacharias told reporters early Tuesday. “She is a great addition to the team and we wish her all the best.”

The announcement comes after weeks of damaging publicity about Guilfoyle’s conduct.

Shortly after Zakaria’s comments, Guilfoyle posted on social media that he was resigning.

“My term as ambassador may be coming to an end, but my dedication to President Trump, the America First movement, and the country I love will never end,” she wrote.

She also denied the charges against her.

“These allegations are false and I will vigorously defend my name, reputation and integrity,” she said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that shortly before her congressional confirmation hearing, Guilfoyle asked a Trump donor to cover a $100,000 credit card bill and promised access to administration officials in return.

The newspaper also reported that he told guests at a reception that he might use U.S. influence to undermine the Greek government, promote the interests of Greek construction and energy companies, and allow one of its lobbyists to attend private diplomatic meetings.

Guilfoyle’s lawyer said the money she was seeking was for past speaking engagements and public appearances that she had not received.

President Trump indicated Monday that he was considering removing her from her post.

“Well, we’re looking at it,” he told reporters. “We are not happy.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio initially defended Guilfoyle, calling him a “strong ambassador,” but later declined to comment on the allegations and criticized reporters who asked about them.

Guilfoyle is a former Fox News host and California prosecutor. She is the ex-wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom and was previously engaged to President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
