Germany’s Nuremberg Airport suspended operations on Tuesday after an incoming plane mistakenly sent an emergency code due to a “temporary breakdown”.

Corendon Airlines said its flight from the Greek island of Corfu to Nuremberg in southern Germany had issued an alert “due to a temporary failure of the radio communications system within Croatian airspace.”

“The situation was immediately monitored, an investigation was immediately launched and all necessary preparations were made,” the airline told CNN.

Nuremberg Airport announced early Tuesday that flight operations had been suspended “for the time being” due to the incident. In a statement, the airport said the flight from Corfu to Nuremberg “landed safely.” According to Reuters, airport operations have since returned to normal.

Local police told CNN there was no danger and everyone on board was safe.

According to police, an emergency call was received from inside the plane’s cockpit just after 11 a.m. local time. They added that the plane was escorted to Nuremberg Airport by a Eurofighter jet.

“The aircraft in question was a scheduled flight from Corfu and landed in Nuremberg as planned. After an on-site inspection, it was determined that there was no danger,” police wrote on X.

Germany’s Bild newspaper earlier reported that possible drone sightings disrupted air traffic at the airport overnight into Tuesday, with three pilots individually reporting objects they saw during takeoff or landing.

Police later told CNN that Tuesday’s incident was unrelated to the drone sighting.

This story has been updated with additional details.
