space x Company President Elon Musk said Monday that the company will give every child in the U.S. a share of the company’s stock next year.
Musk currently owns about 4.8 billion SpaceX shares, according to an August SEC filing. Taking into account unvested compensation and stock options, this number increases to 6.4 billion, representing 48.4% of the company’s beneficial interest.
According to official census data, as of July 1, 2025, there were 72 million children under the age of 18 in the United States.
Considering SpaceX’s closing stock price of $146.03 as of Friday, that means the CEO has given away about $10.5 billion worth of stock.
“This will be the first of many,” Musk said in a post on X, but did not provide details on how the gift of stock would be done.

Musk’s comments drew attention shortly after Anthropic revealed plans to invest 5% of its stock in a new public benefit fund, with the amount potentially increasing as the company’s valuation rises.
In response to Anthropic’s post on X about the fund on Sunday, Musk responded, “I recommend transferring the shares directly to the public,” adding that that’s what he would do.
Subject to shareholder approval, Anthropic’s funds will immediately invest 5% of Anthropic’s shares, with the board of directors, at its discretion, adding an additional 2% for each 50% increase in enterprise value above a yet-to-be-disclosed threshold.
The fund could be used to “consider large donations,” such as direct distributions to traditional nonprofit organizations or specific people, or for “bolder approaches” to researching and addressing AI disruption and job loss, the company said.
