Data centers are very unpopular. But what if we called them something else?

Axios reported that OpenAI is preparing a “PR blitz” after Tuesday’s midterm elections, as Democrats are likely to take back the House and possibly the Senate as well.

Chris Lehane, the company’s chief global affairs officer, told Axios that the midterm elections will be “a bit of a movie trailer for what’s going to happen in 2028” and predicts AI will be an “issue” in the presidential election.

OpenAI will therefore influence future AI discussions, and Lehane discusses several proposals, including the development of “rate limits” for AI. Finding ways to help people see AI as empowering in their daily lives. So is urging the U.S. to play a role in developing global standards and rebranding data centers as “AI computing campuses.”

Lehane also called the conversation around data centers, which led Amazon and Microsoft to say they would no longer use NDAs in negotiations with local governments, as “good and healthy.”

“The community should hold companies accountable and accountable so they can reap truly transformative benefits from these projects,” he said.
