The Democratic Party, which campaigned on promises to combat the country’s soaring cost of living and end the U.S.-Israel war against Iran, is aiming to return to power in the U.S. House of Representatives. The party is also optimistic that it can regain control of the U.S. Senate from Republicans once all votes are counted.
The first clues about how the midterm elections will affect the parties will be revealed in Kentucky’s competitive 6th Congressional District race, where voting closes at 6pm ET.
In the conservative district, which includes Lexington, the state’s second-largest city, Democrats are investing heavily in the campaign of U.S. Navy veteran Zach Dembo, who is running against President Trump-backed doctor and former state Rep. Ralph Alvarado.
If Republicans hold onto the seat, it could signal how they will perform in other races across the country.
Results for all races that day will continue to be announced until Tuesday evening. But some may not know until after Wednesday, as more states finish voting and officials begin releasing vote counts.
