Nothing, the smartphone startup behind the distinctive Nothing Phone, is working on an AI product, but it’s still unclear what that is.
On Wednesday, CEO Karl Pei posted on X that the company’s first “AI-native product” will ship in December. “It’s a tool, but it’s built with the personality and care that has come to define Nothing products. There’s no new screen, and there’s no way it’s an app,” Pei wrote.
Pei has been teasing AI-first devices for a while, and the company also said it plans to release AI-linked smart glasses and earbuds with AI integration.
Does Pay’s description add up to an AI-powered screenless non-app? He also calls it a “productivity tool.” Adding to the puzzling nature of this announcement, Pei seems to downplay the connection to AI wearables.
“The entire industry is aiming for the iPhone moment: a pendant, a pin, a pair of glasses, a companion, a magical consumer device that will make AI part of everyone’s life,” Pei wrote. “While I admire the audacity of it, I read this moment differently.”
No exact release date has been announced, but Nothing fans need to know what the company has in store soon.
