The special committee appointed by President Donald Trump to investigate allegations of false statements by Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has rescheduled a hearing for Cook to appear in court from Thursday this week to Dec. 14, White House officials announced Wednesday night.

The official said the rescheduling of the White House hearing was at Cook’s request, and Cook’s lawyer, Abby Rowell, said in an Oct. 14 letter that questions about the committee and its investigation needed to be addressed before the hearing could take place.

Rowell said at the time that a public hearing could not be held until December at the earliest. It is unclear whether Cook, who President Trump unsuccessfully tried to remove from office in August 2025, will agree to appear at a rescheduled hearing.

The New York Times first reported the rescheduling of Cook’s hearing.

In early October, President Trump created a “committee of inquiry” to investigate allegations that Cook made false statements related to “one or more mortgage products.” Mr Cook denies any wrongdoing.

President Trump established the commission more than three months after the Supreme Court ruled that the president does not currently have the authority to remove Cook from the central bank board. The Supreme Court upheld the lower court’s order blocking Mr. Cook’s dismissal while the lawsuit against him was pending.

The Supreme Court did not rule on whether Mr. Trump ultimately had the authority to remove the Fed director, but said that Mr. Trump’s initial efforts to remove him had failed.

The panel set up by President Trump may be aimed at showing the Supreme Court that Cook was afforded such due process.

CNBC has reached out to Rowell for comment.
