Google makes AI mode easier to access in Chrome on iOS and Android

Google announced Wednesday that AI mode will be easier to access on mobile. Users will now have access to AI mode, allowing them to ask complex questions and follow up with deeper dives into topics directly within search via a new dedicated shortcut button below the search bar when opening a New Tab page in Chrome.

Chrome’s new AI mode shortcuts are rolling out in the U.S. starting Wednesday, and will soon be available in 160 new countries and other languages, including Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and more.

Google may be hoping that by making AI mode more accessible on mobile, people will use its service instead of moving to a competitor’s tool.

The release of this new shortcut comes after Google recently expanded AI Mode globally, bringing the feature to 180 new countries. The tech giant has also made the feature available in more languages, including Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Google first launched AI mode in March to compete with popular services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Since then, the tech giant has continuously updated the tool with added features.

Yesterday, Google launched a new agent feature in AI mode that allows users to book event tickets and beauty and wellness appointments in AI mode. Google first introduced the agent feature in AI mode in August, when it rolled out the ability for people to use the feature to search for restaurant reservations.

AI Mode launched its Canvas feature in July to help you plan your studies and organize information across multiple sessions in a side panel. You can also now use Google Lens to ask what you see on your desktop screen.
