Intel is building a handheld gaming platform that includes dedicated chips

Intel is looking to enhance its gaming hardware with new chips and platforms for portable gaming devices.

The platform includes hardware and software, Intel Vice President and General Manager of PC Products Daniel Rogers announced Monday at CES. It will be built on the company’s Intel Core Series 3 processors, known as Panther Lake, which were announced last year and are currently being rolled out in a variety of PCs.

According to a report from IGN, seen by TechCrunch, the future platform will include a chip specifically for handheld gaming.

These Panther Lake chips are built on the company’s first 18A manufacturing process, which began production in 2025.

Intel is no stranger to the gaming industry, having been developing chips for gaming PCs since the 1990s. The company released the Intel Arc GPU in 2022, putting more emphasis on gaming.

However, the market is currently dominated by AMD, so entering the handheld gaming space would be an interesting development. AMD just announced at Monday’s CES keynote a new processor designed for gaming PCs, the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, in addition to new ray tracing and graphics technology for gaming.

Rogers said Intel will announce more details about new products for handheld gaming later this year.
