Figma partners with OpenAI to include support for Codex

Figma integrates Codex, OpenAI’s AI coding tool, allowing users to create and adjust designs from within the coding environment. The move comes a week after the design firm formed a similar partnership with Anthropic to integrate Claude Code.

This integration allows users to start working with designs in Figma or code in Codex and easily move between the two platforms using Figma’s MCP (Model Context Protocol) server.

Previously, users could bring Figma design files, Figma Make, or FigJam details into Codex for codebase implementation.

“This integration enables teams to build not just their first idea, but their best idea, by combining the best code with the creativity, collaboration, and technology that comes with Figma’s infinite canvas,” said Loredan Crisan, chief design officer at Figma.

“The integration makes Codex powerful for a much broader range of builders and companies because it doesn’t assume you’re a ‘designer’ or ‘engineer’ first. Engineers can iterate visually without leaving the flow, and designers can work closer to actual implementation without having to become a full-time coder,” Codex product lead Alexander Embiricos said in a statement.

OpenAI launched Codex last year as a command-line coding assistant to compete with Anthropic’s acclaimed Claude Code. The company has since incorporated its coding tools into ChatGPT and released a dedicated MacOS app for Codex earlier this month.

The MacOS app was downloaded 1 million times in its first week of release. The company also released two new Codex models in just a few days. OpenAI says more than 1 million users use Codex every week.

Figma is a prominent partner of OpenAI and was one of the first companies to release an app on ChatGPT in October 2025.
