Google’s “Create My Widget” feature lets you vibecode your own widgets

Google on Tuesday announced a new “Create My Widget” feature for Android that lets users vibe-code their own custom widgets. The feature will first be introduced on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones this summer.

To create a widget, users can use natural language to describe what they want. For example, you can ask the feature to “suggest three high-protein meal prep recipes each week” to get a custom dashboard that you can add to your home screen and resize.

Or, if you’re a cyclist who only cares about wind speed and rain, you can create a weather widget that simply displays accurate statistics on your home screen.

Gemini can also pull information from the web and connect to Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to build a single, personalized dashboard. For example, if you’re planning a family reunion in Berlin, you can collect flight and hotel details, view restaurant reservations, and even add a countdown.

The feature marks Google’s latest effort to embed generative AI deeper into the Android experience as tech companies race to make customization tools more accessible to everyday users.

“It’s like asking a personal assistant a question and having it repeat the answer,” Ben Greenwood, director and PM of Android Core Experiences, said in a briefing with reporters. “So think of this as asking Gemini things about the world, about its knowledge of what’s going on and events, and about its personal data. Those are kind of the two areas that will unlock a huge number of use cases that we’re really excited about.”

The company announced new features at the same time as the announcement of Gemini Intelligence. This provides additional features such as advanced autofill, AI-powered voice dictation features for Gboard, and more.
