Codex goes mobile. The coding tool, released by OpenAI about a year ago, has been integrated into the ChatGPT app, allowing users to remotely monitor and manage their development workflows.

This new feature allows users to see a live Codex environment on any device it is running on. The company announced the changes on Thursday. This update is currently in preview and is now available on all iOS and Android plans.

“This is much more than the ability to remotely control a single task or dispatch new tasks to a computer,” OpenAI said in a statement. “You can work on all threads, see output, approve commands, change models, and start something new all from your phone.”

Last month, OpenAI also gave Codex the ability to run in the background of desktop environments, allowing the tool to handle various tasks autonomously. Earlier this month, the company also introduced a Chrome extension that allows agents to work in a live browser session.

In February, Anthropic released a similar feature: Remote Control. This allows users to remotely monitor the work of Claude code from a distance.

The flurry of feature releases from both OpenAI and Anthropic speaks to the intense competition between the two companies to see which agent coding tool will be most widely used. Over the past year, Anthropic’s Claude Code has grown in popularity among businesses and technology professionals alike, and both tools continue to be widely used.
