Gemini Spark, Google’s agent assistant, is now available on Mac

Gemini Spark, Google’s AI agent that helps you with aspects of your digital life, is now available on Mac.

The company announced Wednesday that Spark will be added to its existing Gemini desktop app, as well as several updates and new features, including the ability to get real-time topic updates and connect to more apps like Google Tasks and Google Keep.

With the release of macOS, Gemini Spark will be able to manipulate files on your computer and subsequently handle remote tasks, making it more competitive with desktop AI agents such as Claude Desktop, Microsoft’s Copilot, and OpenClaw.

Although not available at launch, Google says users will “soon” be able to assign multi-step tasks to Spark on their phone, such as calling a desktop agent to retrieve information from files on a Mac.

In the meantime, you can use Spark to sort and organize your files, and use files on your computer as a source for new Google Workspace documents and spreadsheets. For example, Google suggests that you can use Spark to turn invoices on your computer into budget worksheets.

Gemini Spark for macOS (Beta) is currently available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US.

When Spark was released last month, we specifically pointed to the lack of integration with Google’s notes app Keep as a major complaint during early testing. It makes sense that short lists and other notes belong in apps like Google Keep rather than Google Docs, but it seems like overkill for something like a simple vacation packing list.

Clearly we weren’t the only ones who suggested this, as Google added support for Tasks and Keep. Spark now also integrates with other third-party apps like Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals.

This allows Spark to perform all kinds of tasks, such as reserving a table, ordering weekly groceries, designing flyers, and booking apartment tours.

Additionally, Gemini Spark can now track topics and react to events in real time. This improves performance for tasks like tracking sports scores, stock price movements, breaking news, and more. Additionally, this means that Spark can also keep an eye on other areas such as social media, blogging, online shopping, and weather.

Additionally, Google says it will start supporting custom Model Context Protocol (MCP). Now you can connect your favorite apps directly to Spark to build an assistant tailored to your needs.
