Apple filed a trade secrets lawsuit against OpenAI last Friday, but it’s not getting out of hand. The complaint alleges that the pattern of misconduct extends to OpenAI’s chief hardware officer, and claims that more than 400 former Apple employees currently work at the company. OpenAI’s response so far has been carefully evasive, and the timing couldn’t be worse, with the company reportedly considering an IPO as early as later this year.

In this episode of TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, hosts Kirsten Kolosek, Anthony Herr, and Sean O’Kane dig into what the lawsuit means for OpenAI’s own hardware ambitions and IPO timeline, as well as address a larger theme running through the news this week: how much should we trust AI companies’ data?

Listen to the full episode to hear more about what’s next.

Why Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is warning companies about handing over data to AI labs and is open source really the way out of the ‘Trojan Horse’ data trust problem?
