OpenAI hires new CRO as management shakeup continues

After just nine months on the job, OpenAI has replaced Chief Revenue Officer Dennis Dresser and appointed Wiz President and Chief Operating Officer Dali Razik to the top sales role at Frontier Labs.

The move comes as part of a major reorganization of the organization last month, with the departure of COO Brad Lightcap and Fiji Simo, the company’s No. 2 executive and CEO of AGI deployments.

Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, will take on a larger role in management following Simo’s departure, and announced Rajic’s appointment in a blog post today. Lazic’s former employer, Wiz, was acquired by Google for $32 billion this year, making it the tech giant’s biggest acquisition in history.

“Dennis led our revenue organization through the formative years of the business and worked tirelessly to get the team to where it is today,” Brockman wrote. “The way we deploy this technology is changing rapidly, and Dali will translate what we learn into repeatable implementation as we build complete systems that make AI broadly useful to people and businesses.”

OpenAI says its products reach more than 1 billion active users and 2 million businesses each week. But despite its tremendous growth and its powerful model, executives have indicated internally and externally that the company is not meeting all of its revenue goals.

The company says it has secretly filed with the SEC ahead of a potential IPO, but it’s unclear when that will happen. Private companies often seek to expand their executive ranks prior to entering the public market. OpenAI this week bought $7 billion worth of stock from employees in a tender offer that could convert some of their stock compensation into cash, a move that could signal a delay in going public.

A Bloomberg News report on the changes cited an OpenAI blog post that said the company needed to “relentlessly focus” on “measurable business impact,” but those comments appear to have been removed from the published version.

But this year, CEO Sam Altman talked about focusing on enterprise deployment and cutting back on technology projects and experiments that would take the company away from that goal.
