A woman known as Jane Doe 4 has joined a lawsuit brought by three Tennessee teenagers against Elon Musk’s xAI over the company’s Grok chatbot’s role in creating child sexual abuse material.
The woman claimed her stepfather used a Grok to manipulate photos taken of her when she was 11 years old, creating more than 7,000 explicit images, the Washington Post reported. The woman also said her stepfather was found dead by suicide two days after the images were discovered during a law enforcement raid.
“Unrestricted access to these tools is rapidly expanding,” the woman said. “It takes away their daily lives and turns them into child sexual abuse.”
The teenagers who filed the lawsuit accused xAI (now part of SpaceX) of failing to take basic precautions to prevent Grok from being used to create explicit images of real people, including minors. (Company X was inundated with millions of sexual images produced by Grok earlier this year.) They are seeking class action status for the lawsuit.
TechCrunch has reached out to xAI for comment.
