Blacksmith, a platform that helps companies more efficiently build and test software, including code written by AI, on Wednesday announced a $66 million Series C funding round led by Sequoia, valuing the company at $1 billion.
In announcing the round, Blacksmith co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash said the company was founded to make continuous integration (CI), the process of building, testing, merging, and validating code changes, “less painful.” “Most companies are struggling to keep up with the amount of CI they need to do,” he said in a blog post, especially in an era where so much code is being written by AI.
“As agents increasingly create the world’s software, the key question is whether it can be trusted,” he added.
The company also announced 17x annual recurring revenue growth and executed over 90 million CI jobs, or individual automated code checks. Customers include Mercury and Granola.
The Series C comes just two months after a $45 million Series B that valued the company at $550 million. A year ago, Blacksmith raised $10 million in Series A, valuing it at $60 million. To date, it has raised $125 million.
