The world of AI is full of personalized productivity-based assistants, with new ones being released every week. Now, Anthropic is entering the fray in hopes of gaining user attention with a new app called Claude Duet that aims to rival Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
Anthropic said the new agent is aimed at meeting the needs of professionals and small businesses, helping them automate and manage tasks. The company differentiates it from personal agents such as Instinct by pointing out that Duet isn’t good at handling errands or booking tickets, and can’t actually view browser usage.
Instead, Duet can create daily briefings for users, create dashboards, and suggest actions based on their data. Like other agents, Duet completes tasks in the background through its own virtual machine while you do other work, and returns when approval is required.
The announcement comes as the market moves beyond AI assistants to agents that work on behalf of users. Many of Anthropic’s competitors are focused on business use cases. Meta’s Muse is a personal AI assistant, but the company also released a version for small businesses that connects with other apps. OpenAI’s Dots also has a business-friendly aspect due to its integration with professional tools.
According to Anthropic, Duet proactively provides recommendations while monitoring ongoing tasks. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet can connect to over 6,000 connectors and plug-ins from the Claude Marketplace. You can also make online purchases on your behalf through Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay.
The company said sensitive steps such as payments require user approval. However, Duet does not trade securities or transfer funds between accounts.
Anthropic also released a new classifier that checks each message to prevent sensitive information from being leaked. By default, the agent said it will deny requests for credit card numbers or government identification.
Claude Duet is available as an app for iOS and Android, as well as a research preview on the web through Claude.ai for Pro and Max customers. Users must join the waiting list to try it.
