President Donald Trump today said he called off a “pre-anticipated” second wave of attacks against Venezuela, citing Venezuela’s cooperation with the United States.

This comes almost a week after he ordered a military operation to oust Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who is currently in U.S. custody along with his wife, Cilia Flores.

Immediately after that military operation, President Trump said at a press conference, “If necessary, we are ready to do a second wave, and even a larger attack. … We actually thought a second wave was necessary, but now that’s probably not the case.”

In a post on Truth Social on Friday, President Trump said the United States and Venezuela “work together well, especially as it relates to rebuilding our oil and gas infrastructure in a bigger, better, more modern way.”

“Thanks to this cooperation, I have canceled the previously expected second wave of attacks, which will likely not be necessary, but all vessels will remain in place for safety and security purposes,” he added.

President Trump went on to say that Venezuela is “releasing a large number of political prisoners as a sign of our desire for peace,” adding, “This is a very important and wise move.”

Venezuela’s government has begun releasing high-profile prisoners, including opposition politicians, on Thursday to “seek peace,” a government representative announced.
