Venezuelan government officials return to X, marking apparent end to Maduro-era platform ban

Venezuelan officials, including acting President Delcy Rodríguez, returned to the X late Tuesday, in an apparent reversal of President Nicolas Maduro’s 2024 decision to block sites in the country.

Rodriguez posted on his official account, “We will resume contact through this channel.” “Venezuela continues to stand with strength and historical awareness.”

In his latest profile, Rodríguez calls himself the “Interim President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” adding that he will “walk the Bolivarian and Chávez path with President Nicolás Maduro.”

Ousted President Maduro, who was recently arrested by the US, banned X in Venezuela in August 2024 after an online clash with X’s owner Elon Musk. President Maduro initially said the ban was temporary, but Venezuelans have since been unable to freely access the site.

Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, one of the most powerful people in the government, also appeared to be back on Tuesday, posting: “I stopped by to give a big hug to our brothers and sisters in Venezuela and around the world as we continue to assess the situation in our country.”

Jorge Rodríguez, the acting president’s brother and the president of the country’s National Assembly, also posted on X, saying in Spanish: “Let’s continue on the path of prosperity, dialogue and respect. We will overcome!”

CNN has asked Venezuela’s National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel) for comment on the apparent end of the block on X.

President Maduro’s official account also appeared to be active on Tuesday, posting an image of him and his wife, Cilia Flores, who was also captured in the US operation, with text in Spanish that read: “11 days have passed since their kidnapping” and “#We want them back.” It was not immediately clear who controls Maduro’s verified account. CNN has contacted the Ministry of Communications and Information regarding the handling of the account.

Maduro’s verified account still calls himself “President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, 2025-2031, Bolivarian Soldier, Son of Chávez.”

CNN has contacted Company X to confirm whether access to the platform has been restored across Venezuela.
