A commuter train collided with a crane in southeastern Spain on Thursday, the country’s fourth rail accident in less than a week, emergency services said.

Officials added that four people suffered minor injuries in the accident near the port city of Cartagena in the Murcia region.

A spokesperson for Murcia’s emergency services said: “The train did not overturn or derail.” The first calls about the crash came in just after noon, police said.

Spain is still reeling from the aftermath of a high-speed train crash that killed at least 43 people in the southern region of Andalusia on Sunday.

Two days later, a commuter train derailed near Barcelona when a containment wall fell onto the tracks due to heavy rain, killing the driver and seriously injuring four passengers.

The main train drivers’ union subsequently called for a nationwide strike over safety standards, and a second crash occurred in northeastern Catalonia on Tuesday.

Spanish railway operator Adif said on Thursday that traffic on lines in Murcia had been disrupted due to “intrusion into infrastructure gauges by cranes not belonging to railway operations.”

The message regarding X does not go into further detail.

A subsequent post announced that service on the line had resumed.
