CNN investigation: US and Israeli airstrikes hit near civilian facilities

CNN investigation: US and Israeli airstrikes hit near civilian facilities

03:52

Tehran’s Mehrabad airport, where a fire broke out in dramatic footage early Saturday morning, was one of several locations targeted by the strike, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

It is unclear whether the airport was directly hit. State media reported that the airport had been attacked.

Israel announced early Saturday that it had launched a “massive wave of attacks.” CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces for comment.

Other targets in the past 24 hours have included military and public facilities such as Tehran’s police stations and Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps barracks, according to an HRANA notice posted Friday evening.

However, other civilian buildings were also damaged in the strike, including the Mahabad Red Crescent, a humanitarian aid facility, and three housing units in Tehran.

HRANA, the news arm of the nonprofit organization Human Rights Defenders of Iran (HRAI), compiled information about the strike using a combination of field reports, local contacts, medical and emergency sources, and open source materials, according to its website.

According to Iranian state media, US and Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 1,200 people in Iran.
