Video geolocated by CNN shows air defense systems engaging the projectile over the Iraqi capital, about 600 meters (600 meters) from the US embassy compound in Baghdad, early Tuesday local time.

One video shows streaks of anti-aircraft rounds consistent with those fired from the U.S. Anti-Rocket and Mortar System (C-RAM). An explosion is then seen in the sky, consistent with the interception of the projectile.

“Then I heard someone on the ground say, “Brother, watch out for debris.”

Another video shows the moment a projectile matching the drone hits an area near the U.S. Embassy. In the clip, air defense shells can be seen streaking the sky before what appears to be a drone hits the ground. A large explosion could then be heard on a video taken about 1,000 meters from the embassy.

I hear a voice in the background saying, “Yes, there is. It’s true, it’s true, it’s true, it’s true.” Then I hear a voice say, “What is that? A flying drone?”

The embassy has been attacked before. Two drones attacked the US embassy in the capital on Saturday, security officials told CNN. Video geolocated by CNN on Saturday showed smoke and flames rising from a building near the site.

“Early Tuesday morning local time, a spokesperson for the Supreme Commander of the Iraqi Armed Forces said there were “repeated “unprovoked attacks” against a number of important installations, installations, and diplomatic missions.”

These include the US embassy headquarters in Baghdad, the Majnoun oil field and the Al-Rashid International Hotel, Sabah al-Numan said in a statement posted to X by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office.
