President Donald Trump attended the dignified transfer Wednesday of four U.S. soldiers recently killed in the war with Iran.
Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25 years old. Private Isabella Gonzalez, 19 years old. And Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, was killed as part of an Iranian attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The Pentagon announced that Michael Emanuel Swinton, 30, was killed during the controlled explosion of an Iranian drone that was shot down in Iraq.
President Trump met privately with the soldier’s family before the transfer and invited Feehan’s relatives to join him on Air Force One en route to Georgia.
Hours later, President Trump reflected on the dignified transfer and paid tribute to the fallen, telling a crowd in Marietta, Georgia, “It was very hard to watch. It was very difficult, to be honest. I think it’s the hardest thing for me to do.”
The United States and Iran have stepped up attacks in the past few weeks. As of Thursday afternoon, 18 U.S. soldiers had died in connection with the Iran war.
