mexico city —

On Tuesday, a Mexican musician, his pregnant wife, 3-year-old daughter, nanny and family dog were found dead in a gruesome murder.

Jonathan Meléndez, 38, the keyboardist for the famous indie rock band Camilo Septimo, was among those found dead in an apartment in an upscale Mexico City suburb late Tuesday night, Mexico’s attorney general’s office said. His wife, Ana Paula, 35, was four months pregnant.

The second woman’s family confirmed to reporters that Aleida Romero Victorio, a 21-year-old boy, worked for the couple as a nanny.

“She was a very hard-working and responsible girl and she shouldn’t have something like this happen to her,” said her aunt Lorena Victorio Cabrera.

Three of the victims, including the girl, were shot in the head and one in the back, authorities said.

“Two of the victims were found with their hands tied,” prosecutors said in a statement. The dog was found dead with its legs bound.

The 6-year-old boy was found alive and unharmed at the scene.

Authorities believe the killing occurred between 5:30 and 7:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Melendez’s band said he will be remembered “with immense love and gratitude.”

“Today we honor and celebrate his life, his music, his light, and what he shared with those of us who were lucky enough to know him and walk with him,” Camilo Septimo said on Instagram.

On Wednesday, two men were arrested in connection with the death in a joint operation involving the Mexican State Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Secretariat of Security and Civil Protection, and the Mexico City Civil Safety Secretariat.

Prosecutors announced that a colleague of Mr. Melendez, identified as Diego Sebastian “N,” has been charged as the perpetrator.

Another man, identified as Herald “N”, is also being investigated for his alleged involvement.

CNN is trying to find out whether the detainees have legal representation.

One of the suspects allegedly “exploited” his relationship with one of the victims to break into the house, Mexico’s Security and Civil Protection Secretary Omar García Halfuf said.

Prosecutors said they would clarify the circumstances of the killing and the legal status of those detained at the appropriate procedural stage.
