President Donald Trump said Monday that countries that do business with Iran will be subject to a 25% tariff on “all trade with the United States.”

President Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the new tariffs on imports from Iran’s trading partners are “effective immediately.”

“This order is final and conclusive. Thank you for your attention in this matter,” he wrote.

Further details about the tariff announcement were not immediately available. White House officials declined to answer CNBC’s questions about the president’s social media posts.

President Trump’s apparent effort to economically isolate Iran comes as the oil-rich Middle Eastern country struggles to suppress ongoing large-scale anti-government protests.

Dozens of these protesters have reportedly been killed in recent weeks. President Trump has threatened military action against Iran if the killings continue.

The president has also explicitly encouraged demonstrations against the Iranian regime. “Iran wants freedom more than perhaps ever before. The US is ready to help!!!” he wrote on social media on Saturday.

The announcement of new tariffs on Iran’s business partners comes ahead of a long-awaited Supreme Court ruling on whether many of President Trump’s most far-reaching tariffs are legal.

These tariffs were imposed using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), including his controversial “mutual” obligations from early April and other duties related to alleged fentanyl trafficking.

It is unclear whether President Trump’s newly announced Iran-related tariffs will also be based on the same law.
