Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Sunday that the man suspected of shooting dead Russian military intelligence chief Vladimir Alekseev in Moscow was detained in Dubai and extradited to Russia.

Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, deputy head of Russia’s military intelligence agency GRU, was shot several times in a Moscow apartment complex on Friday, investigators said. Russian media said he underwent surgery after the shooting.

The FSB announced that a Russian national named Lyubomir Korba was detained in Dubai on suspicion of carrying out the shooting.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Ukraine of being behind the assassination plot and said it was aimed at sabotaging peace talks.

Ukraine said it had nothing to do with the shooting.

Alekseev’s boss, GRU head Admiral Igor Koshchukov, is leading the Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi to negotiate security-related aspects of a potential peace deal with Ukraine.
