The United States announced Sunday that it had targeted Iranian forces that attacked Jordan last week. Two U.S. military personnel were killed and one is missing in the Iranian attack.
Kuwait reported overnight that it had begun defending against a new wave of Iranian projectiles.
The weekend’s developments could further jeopardize last month’s fragile ceasefire between the two countries and raise new concerns about oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command announced that it had completed eight consecutive nights of strikes against targets in Iran.
“CENTCOM forces successfully attacked Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites, continuing to degrade Iran’s military capabilities,” the paper said in a post on X.
It added that “U.S. military assets also targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which launched an attack on U.S. military personnel in Jordan on July 17.”
According to Centcom, US President Donald Trump has ordered the military to launch new airstrikes starting at 6pm ET on Saturday to “reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz” and “punish the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which launched an attack on US military personnel in Jordan last night.”
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Ghalibabadi said on Saturday that the country had suspended implementation of the memorandum of understanding it signed with the United States last month.

“The United States has violated all its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum and has suspended it,” he said. “We have also suspended our commitments. We are not fulfilling our commitments and are busy defending our country.”
Asked about Iran saying it was no longer abiding by the interim peace agreement, Trump told a NewsNation reporter: “I can’t be bothered.”
A memorandum of understanding signed last month by the United States and Iran continues to unravel amid recent fighting, with both sides exchanging targeted airstrikes in the region. The interim agreement was aimed at reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and ending the conflict.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said the country had “unforgettable lessons” for the United States.

Khamenei said repeated US attacks showed that President Trump’s signature on the memorandum was “totally worthless and lacks credibility.”
The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the remarks.
Two more U.S. service members have been confirmed dead in Jordan, adding to the 14 other military deaths confirmed since the Feb. 28 U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran began the war, MS Now reported.
In a phone interview with a NewsNation reporter, President Trump called the deaths of the two service members “very sad, very sad.”
“We don’t want to see that happen. This is for our country,” he said, reiterating the United States’ pledge to “never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.”
“Godspeed Heroes”
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reacted to the deaths in the X by saying, “These were speedy heroes. Their sacrifice only strengthens our resolve.”
The Revolutionary Guards said on Saturday that it had intercepted four ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. protection.
And Iran continued to target its regional neighbors.
Kuwait announced on Sunday that its air defenses were facing missile and drone attacks from Iran.
Despite the new attacks, President Trump insisted that the war with Iran is on track, saying in a prime-time address to the American people on Thursday: “We have won big victories in Iran as well, and we will soon see the fruits of our efforts.”
The US president had threatened to attack Iranian bridges and power plants within the next week if Iran refused to return to the negotiating table.
Oil prices rose sharply on Friday as unrest in the Middle East continues.

international benchmark brent crude oil On Friday, futures for September delivery rose 4.6% to $88.10 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures for August delivery rose 4.5% to settle at $82.49 per barrel. Both prices were the highest since mid-June.
Both benchmarks rose about 16% during the week, with Brent posting its third consecutive week of gains and WTI posting its second consecutive week of gains.
