Primary voting is beginning to close across the country as voters in states like Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Carolina choose their party’s candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
In South Carolina, polls ended at 7pm ET as Republican voters chose a Republican candidate to replace the late Sen. Lindsey Graham.
In Minnesota and Wisconsin, voting is scheduled to end at 9pm ET. Both states, in which progressive Democrats face more moderate Democratic candidates, are key tests as the party’s left wing grows nationally.
Progressive Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is running against centrist Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) for the Democratic nomination for Minnesota’s open Senate seat. In Wisconsin, democratic socialist Francesca Hong is the frontrunner for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Outgoing Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has endorsed Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley as his successor.
