The Supreme Court on Friday allowed President Donald Trump to continue construction on the controversial White House ballroom project for now.

Chief Justice John Roberts blocked a federal district judge’s injunction that had barred President Trump from continuing construction while a lawsuit challenging the ballroom plans unfolded.

Roberts’ order was issued on the same day the injunction was scheduled to go into effect.

The order is an administrative stay and may be lifted by the full Supreme Court.

In 2025, President Trump had the East Wing of the White House demolished without notifying Congress to make way for a planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is suing Trump, seeking to block the project because he has not obtained the necessary permits and reviews for the project.
