Norway’s government said in a statement on Sunday that it plans to give Ukraine an additional 85 billion Norwegian crowns ($9.2 billion) in financial support in the 2027 fiscal year, the same amount as was given in 2026.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gaar Stoere and leaders of the Nordic and Baltic regions are visiting Kiev on Sunday to express support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
In a speech released by the Norwegian government in Oslo, Mr. Stoere reportedly said that Norway’s contribution would be used for both military and humanitarian spending.
“Supporting and rebuilding Ukraine is not a standalone aid; it is an investment in Europe’s own security,” Stoele said.
In comments published on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Kiev had opened a “Pandora’s Box” with its attack on Russia’s economic targets and said Russia would strike back in Ukraine’s “most sensitive economic sector.”
As battlefield fighting intensifies into a fourth and a half year, Russia and Ukraine have both stepped up drone operations aimed at destroying each other’s economic infrastructure, often hitting targets far beyond the front lines of the war started by Moscow.
