A Russian drone strike on a warehouse in the Kiev region caused an explosion that killed at least 27 people, officials said Saturday, and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called for those responsible to be punished.

Another 42 people were injured and more than 380 people were evacuated from the attack area in Bucha district, Kyiv region governor Timur Tkachenko wrote on the Telegram app.

Tkachenko did not provide details about the damage caused by the strike late Friday. President Zelenskiy said the attack on the warehouse caused an explosion and caused “significant damage” to nearby infrastructure, including homes and elderly care facilities.

“Those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions,” President Zelenskiy wrote about X, adding that a criminal case had already been opened on charges of official negligence.

“Regulations are in place and ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas. Appropriate conclusions will definitely be drawn.”

Governor Tkachenko said the death toll could still rise.

Friday’s attacks followed frequent waves of drones targeting the city and surrounding areas over two days, damaging warehouses and homes and disrupting daily life.
