Republicans are using the midterm convention as part of their anti-corruption pitch for a stock trading ban in Congress, even as President Donald Trump’s own investment account continues to actively trade millions of dollars.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) is one of at least two speakers expected to call for restrictions on Congressional stock trading with an emphasis on “government integrity” on Wednesday, the opening day of the Dallas convention.

Since returning to office, Trump has maintained an unusually large and active investment portfolio.

A previous CNBC analysis of his annual financial disclosures said he disclosed at least $858 million in assets and more than 21,000 transactions in 2025 across eight accounts. Throughout his first term, he reported approximately 500 transactions.

Activities continued this year as well.

Trump disclosed 1,051 deals in June alone, totaling between $78.1 million and $263.1 million. His account bought and sold stocks, bonds, and exchange-traded funds, including transactions in the millions of dollars. Meta, Berkshire Hathaway, visa and master card and up to $50,000 for initial public offering. space x.

Some of those investments are in industries directly affected by the president’s decisions.

CNBC reported Wednesday that President Trump’s nine major oil and gas holdings made an estimated profit of $1.5 million to $4.4 million from the eve of the Iran war to Aug. 31, but his accounts continued to buy and sell energy stocks during the conflict.

CNBC found no evidence that Trump directed these trades, traded with advance knowledge of government decisions, or shaped policies to benefit his own investments.

The Trump Organization said outside financial institutions have complete discretion over investment decisions and rely heavily on automated strategies. The White House said Trump cannot direct individual deals and that “no conflict of interest exists.”

Nevertheless, Mr. Trump remains the beneficiary of the rise in assets and their values.

Meanwhile, Luna’s request for Wednesday’s convention also comes less than two months after House Republicans passed the first major stock trading restrictions in years.

The Republican-led Stop Insider Trading Act passed the House of Representatives 232-198 in July. The law prohibits members from purchasing individual stocks while in office, but allows them to hold on to their existing holdings and sell them after announcing their intentions at least seven days in advance. This restriction does not apply to the president.

Congress’s ban on stock trading has broad public support, backed by lawmakers’ well-timed trades and years of oversight of rapidly growing portfolios. But critics say the House bill still leaves potential conflicts open.

“This is a stock trading ban that still allows stock trading,” Rep. Seth Magaziner (DR.I.), who has worked with Republicans on a more sweeping proposal, told CNBC in July.
