Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will attend a state dinner for Xi Jinping when the Chinese leader travels to Washington next week to meet with President Donald Trump, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC on Tuesday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private guest list.

Mr. Hwang’s planned appearance at a high-profile event is the latest sign of his alliance with Mr. Trump. This week, that bond appeared stronger than ever as the two pushed back against other tech CEOs who issued stark warnings about the risks posed by rapid advances in AI.

AI is expected to be a major topic of discussion when President Xi meets with President Trump. Huang was among a select group of CEOs who traveled to China with President Trump earlier this year.

It was not immediately clear who else was invited to the state dinner.

“President Trump has invited some of America’s great business leaders to dinner with President Xi because President Xi always prioritizes getting a good deal for our country,” a White House official told CNBC.
