Southampton have sacked manager Will Still.

Saints have won just two of their 13 league games since being relegated from the Premier League last season and sit 21st in the Championship, three points above the relegation zone.

Still took up his first role in English football in May after leaving Ligue 1 side RC Reims.

Southampton lost 2-0 at home to Preston North End on Saturday, suffering a third straight defeat and have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions.

Southampton have announced that Tonda Eckert, head coach of the Under-21 team, will take over the team on an interim basis.

In a statement published on the club’s official website, group technical director Johannes Spors said: “Will is a great person who has done everything he can to improve performances and results.

“In the end that process took longer than any of us would have liked and we believe that by making changes now we have the best chance of turning things around this season and climbing back into the league table.”

Goalkeeping coach Ruben Martinez, first-team analyst Clement Lemaître and coach Karl Martin have also left their positions at the club.
