Sky Sports News reports that Toto Wolff is in talks to sell part of his stake in the Mercedes F1 team.

Wolff owns a third of Mercedes F1 and is in talks to sell his around 5% stake, leaving the Austrian with around 28%.

If the sale goes through, the 53-year-old will remain as Mercedes team principal and CEO.

The deal values Mercedes at £4.6bn.

Mercedes said in a statement: “We have no comment on this matter.

“The team’s governance remains unchanged and all three partners (Mercedes-Benz, TOTO and INEOS) are fully committed to Mercedes-Benz’s continued success in F1.”

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has played down speculation linking Red Bull’s Max Verstappen with a move to the team in 2027.

The deal means the value of Mercedes F1 will rise significantly since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS bought a stake in Mercedes F1 for £208m in 2022.

Mercedes is currently second in the constructors’ standings, behind reigning champion McLaren, with three races remaining in the 2025 season.

George Russell won two of 21 grands prix this year and finished fourth in the drivers’ championship behind McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Mercedes won a record eight consecutive constructors’ championships and seven drivers’ titles (six for Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg) between 2014 and 2021.

F1’s thrilling title race continues until the Las Vegas Grand Prix from November 21-23, broadcast live on Sky Sports F1. Stream Sky Sports now – cancel anytime with no contract
