Chelsea set a new Women’s Super League record by extending their unbeaten run to 34 games, but dropped points with a 1-1 draw against bottom-placed Liverpool.

The Blues, under former manager Emma Hayes, have not lost a league game since losing to Liverpool in May 2024 and have surpassed their own unbeaten record, but they are now three points behind leaders Manchester City after Liverpool’s Beata Olsson canceled out Alyssa Thompson’s opener.

Chelsea captain Millie Bright also made history by becoming the WSL appearance record holder with 211 appearances.

Despite picking up valuable points, Liverpool fell to the bottom of the WSL.

Chelsea took the lead after just nine minutes, but missed a chance to close in on a goal with Man City. Thompson cut inside from the left and curled the ball nicely into the top right corner.

An early goal suggested Chelsea were close to victory, but Gareth Taylor’s Liverpool were more persistent and equalized in the 33rd minute. Lily Woodham played in Olson’s place, and Olson outplayed Bright and dribbled in from the halfway line to score.

Looking for a winner, Sonia Bompaster introduced her attackers in the second half, introducing Aggie Beaver-Jones and Lauren James in her first WSL appearance since March.

Beaver-Jones had his goal ruled out for offside after going past goalkeeper Fay Kirby, but Liverpool hung on despite a shot that went just wide of the right-hand post minutes later.

The story of the game in terms of statistics…
