Igor Thiago made Brentford history with his double in the Bees’ 3-1 win over Burnley.

The Brazilian’s penalty after 81 minutes took his tally to 10 goals in the Premier League this season, a milestone achieved in just 13 games. Ivan Toney held the club record for a single season, scoring in double figures in 15 games in the division during the 2022/23 season.

Jeanne Fleming’s spot-kick equalized the scores and they added another within five minutes, before Dango Ouattara added another for Brentford in the 92nd minute.

Brentford have moved up to eighth in the table with three consecutive home wins, while Burnley remain in the bottom three after suffering their eighth loss in their last 11 league games.

Brentford thrives again on home soil

The first half passed without any major accidents in west London.

Nathan Collins had a great chance to capitalize on Brentford’s bright start with a darting run from a corner kick from the right, but contact was kept to a minimum and Burnley escaped unscathed.

Meanwhile, the Clarets had their best chance just before half-time when Caoich Kelleher showed his alertness and athleticism to flick away a speculative Fleming shot.

However, had Ouattara missed offside during the build-up, Thiago would have scored the first goal by slamming it high right after the restart. However, I only had to wait another 30 minutes.

Axel Tuanzebe brought down Ouattara in the box, a VAR check confirmed there was contact, and Thiago was not offside in the build-up, resulting in a penalty, which Thiago brilliantly slotted home.

Thiago’s second goal came within five minutes of his first shot.

But within seconds, Michael Cayode was penalized for a foul on Jadon Anthony, and Fleming scored the tying goal from the opposite spot.

The late drama continued when Rico Henry attacked a cross and the ball fell gently for Thiago to slot even higher into the net. And Ouattara added some sparkle by controlling a nice ball from Jordan Henderson for a third of the extra nine minutes and finishing from a similar position.

The story of the game in terms of statistics…

What will happen in the Premier League?
