Sky Sports News understands there are concerns that Alexander Isak sustained a serious lower leg injury during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday.

Liverpool and Isak are awaiting an MRI scan on the injury he sustained when he scored the opening goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Micky van de Ven slipped in while trying to prevent Isak from scoring, and Isak was unable to celebrate and signaled for immediate treatment.

A stretcher was carried onto the pitch, but Isak was eventually helped off the field by Liverpool’s medical staff.

The Sweden international missed five games between October and November with a groin injury, and the setback will add to a disjointed start to his life at Liverpool since his record £125m move from Newcastle this summer.

Which games has Isaac already missed for Liverpool?

14 September: Burnley 0-1 Liverpool – Fitness match 25 October: Brentford 3-2 Liverpool – groin injury 29 October: Liverpool 0-3 Crystal Palace – groin injury 1 November: Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa – groin injury 4 November: Liverpool 1-0 Real Madrid – Groin injury

Isak has played 16 games in all competitions for Liverpool, scoring just three goals.

“It’s difficult to know exactly what he has,” head coach Arne Slott told Sky Sports immediately after the game.

“But it’s never good that he collided with the defender after the goal.

“I hope he’s okay, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Liverpool’s performance at Spurs boosts qualification spots

Liverpool boss Slott was encouraged by his team’s performance in north London, extending their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five games, despite Isaac’s injury and holding out for a narrow victory against the nine-man hosts.

“In football, the last few minutes are the most memorable,” he said. “And those were the worst few minutes of our entire game. I think if we can just calm down a little bit and erase that from our memory, there’s a lot to like about our performance as well.”

“At the end of the day, I’ve stood here time and time again and I really liked the way we performed and we didn’t get the three points. Now, for the most part, I like the performance and we got the three points, so I just have to say that to myself.”
