Antoine Semenyo’s agent is set to finalize the terms of his contract in Manchester as Manchester City begin negotiations with Bournemouth over a £65m release clause.

City aim to sign the 25-year-old winger when the transfer window opens on January 1, and talks are expected to continue this week.

Semenyo’s agent is also expected to agree personal terms on a long-term deal at the Etihad Stadium.

City are the only club to have approached Bournemouth about a release clause so far, and the deal is thought to run from January 1st to January 10th.

This was despite interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea before Christmas.

Chelsea chose not to pursue him further after conducting an investigation, and Spurs also moved on to other targets.

Will Manchester City look to make other signings in January?

Josep Guardiola has ruled out reserve goalkeeper James Trafford leaving in January despite the England international feeling uncertain about his own role with Gianluigi Donnarumma his first choice, but City are open to letting Stefan Ortega leave.

In the long term, City are also looking to cover central midfield in Tijani Lijnders, with Mateo Kovacic injured and Bernardo Silva out of contract in the summer.

Right-back was an area City were looking at in the summer, but Matheus Nunez’s excellent performances in the position meant he was removed from their priority list. Tino Libramento is a long-term target but Newcastle have no intention of letting him go.

City have John Stones in the final year of his contract, Nathan Ake, who will soon turn 31, and are one of the clubs interested in signing Marc Gehi on a free transfer next summer.
