When is the transfer deadline?
Deadline Day will be Monday 2nd February 2026 and the Premier League window will close at 7pm.
Meanwhile, in Scotland, clubs close at 11pm, giving clubs an extra few hours to complete their work.
When do transfer windows close across Europe?
Most of Europe’s major leagues, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain, will also end on Monday 2 February 2026, although times vary.
The key deadlines for February 2nd (UK time) are:
Italy: 7pm
Germany: 7pm
France: 7pm
Spain: 10:59 p.m.
Portugal’s window will close on February 3rd, while further afield Saudi Arabia will also close on February 2nd.
What will happen in WSL?
The Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship Club winter period begins on Friday 2 January 2026 and concludes on Tuesday 3 February 2026.
The WSL and Women’s Championship period ends at 11pm UK time.

Can clubs sign players outside the transfer window?
Free agents are not under contract with another club, so they can sign with a team at any time.
If a player becomes a free agent in early July, he can agree to a transfer to a foreign club, but he will not officially become a player until his contract ends.
How many loan players can a club sign?
The Premier League handbook details that Premier League clubs cannot have more than one player on loan at a time.
The maximum number of loan players a club can register in the same season is four, and clubs cannot loan more than one player from the same club at one time.
A Premier League club cannot loan a player acquired during the same transfer window to another Premier League club.
A Premier League club may not loan more than one goalkeeper to another Premier League club.
EFL regulations allow clubs to loan players more freely, but only a maximum of five players can be named in the match-day squad.
No club in the Championship, League One or League Two may sign more than four players on temporary loan from other clubs in any season. Also, no more than two of these players can be over 23 years old (the deadline to determine a player’s age is June 30th, before the season in which the loan is to be made).
Loans that later become permanent transfers do not count towards the club’s quota.
EFL clubs are allowed to take out an emergency loan if all of their professional goalkeepers are unable to play due to injury, suspension or international call-up.
