Tottenham have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in the role.

During Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle, Spurs fans booed Frank and shouted for him to be sacked.

Club executives are understood to have concluded that Frank’s position was no longer tenable.

Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League table, five points above the drop zone, but have won just two of their last 17 league games.

“The club has taken the decision to change the position of men’s head coach, with Thomas Frank retiring today,” the club said in a statement.

“Mr Thomas will be appointed in June 2025 and we are determined to give him the time and support he needs to build our future together.

“However, the results and performances have led the board to the conclusion that changes are necessary at this point in the season.

“Thomas has acted with unwavering commitment throughout his time at the club and has done everything he can to move the club forward. We would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Frank left Brentford in June to replace Ange Postecoglou after the Australian was sacked despite winning the Europa League.

Frank was spotted drinking an Arsenal cup before the defeat against Bournemouth in January.

However, the former Bees manager was unable to charm the Tottenham faithful and his short tenure was fraught with setbacks, including drinking from a coffee cup emblazoned with rivals Arsenal’s badge.

Frank left after winning just 13 of his 38 games in charge, and the loss to Newcastle left him with a winning percentage of just 26.9 per cent in the Premier League, the worst of any Spurs manager in the Premier League era.

The 52-year-old’s departure means Spurs are looking for their sixth permanent manager in seven years since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019.

Frank’s successor will take over the team, which remain in the knockout stages of the Champions League after the Dane guided them to fourth place in the table, despite losing both domestic cup competitions.

“Frank’s position has become untenable.”

Michael Bridge has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank.

“Thomas Frank had people who supported him, but they didn’t want to make this decision.

“But it was becoming unsustainable, the loss to Newcastle was a really bad atmosphere.

“Tottenham didn’t want to do this, but we’ve lost our fans and there’s no going back. We had no choice but to do this.

“They had to make a decision. They got Arsenal 12 days later and it’s not the game that everyone wanted.
