Ireland winger James Rowe will miss the remainder of the Six Nations after sustaining a groin injury during last weekend’s win over England.

The 33-year-old limped off and was replaced by Leinster teammate Tommy O’Brien in the 18th minute of the 42-21 win over Twickenham.

Ireland host Wales in Round 4 of the Championship on Friday 6th March, before Scotland visit Dublin eight days later on the final weekend.

England rugby union head coach Steve Borthwick explains what went wrong in the Six Nations vs. Ireland

New Zealand-born Lowe made 45 appearances for Ireland, scoring 17 tries, and won two Test caps for the British and Irish Lions during last summer’s tour of Australia.

He played every minute of Ireland’s victorious Six Nations campaigns in 2023 and 2024.

Although he was left out of head coach Andy Farrell’s matchday squad following a 36–14 loss to France in the first round on 5 February, Lowe impressed in the subsequent 20–13 win over Italy.

Ireland, who had a record away win against England, sit third in the championship standings behind leaders France and second place Scotland.

Their next opponents, Wales, who are still without a win after three games, came close to being upset by Gregor Townsend’s Scotland side on Saturday, but lost 26-23 in Cardiff.

Will Greenwood criticized England’s performance after Ireland’s 42-21 defeat in the Six Nations

As Ireland chase the Triple Crown and maintain a slim chance of the title, assistant coach Simon Easterby insists his team will not get carried away with a memorable trip to south-west London.

“I don’t think one result against England at Twickenham gives us the right to sit back and reflect and enjoy it, because we know we have the next game coming up against Wales, who had a great performance against Scotland,” Easterby said.

“Our philosophy has always been to really work on the fundamentals of our game and make sure we continue to hone those skills so that we can maintain our performance and continue to pick up those skills in training and next week we need to improve again.

“It’s a different game, a different team we’re playing against. They (Wales) have a different skill set and a different threat against England. We need to make sure we know that.”
