Hull KR coach Willie Peters has given a scathing verdict on the heavy Super League defeat against Leeds Rhinos in Las Vegas: We let the fans down | Rugby League News

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters said the team had their worst performance under him as they “let the fans down” with a 58-6 loss to Leeds Rhinos in Las Vegas.

The Rhinos ran wild on the biggest stage, scoring 10 tries, including four through winger Micah Sibo, and Hull KR were absolutely devastating as they crumbled under the slightest pressure.

It was a reality check for the Robins, who are now down to zero points in Super League after two games after a big win over Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge and a shock opening game loss to York Knights in the first leg.

Peters was visibly agitated after his team’s game and quickly apologized to fans who had traveled thousands of miles to watch his team suffer in “Sin City.”

“Where do I start? We lost in every area. Honestly, I feel bad for the fans who paid their hard-earned money to come see us,” Peters said.

“It’s not enough to come and watch their team play and spend and save money for us to put on a performance like that.

Leeds’ Micah Thibo scores four tries in a great performance against Hull KR in Las Vegas

“We all need to look at ourselves at the top to understand why we performed like that, but it certainly brought us back down to earth.

“We’re here to put actions before words and do something about it. If that’s the template for our actions this season, we’re in for a long season.”

Are you in Las Vegas? That’s for the players to decide

After such a loss in Super League, it is highly unlikely that the players would go out into town to celebrate anything.

However, Super League games are not often played in Las Vegas.

Peters said it will be up to the players to decide how to spend the night and what to do.

“We’ll leave that up to them. They can go have a drink, but if they don’t, it’s up to them,” Peters added.

“They’re men, and men make decisions and make their own decisions. Most of the time, men would like to think they’re making the right decision about whether they’ve earned it or deserved it. That’s up to them.”

Sibo makes a big break downfield and shifts wide for Ryan Hall to cruise over.

“We have to go see the fans, and I’ll be there. I think people are planning something else. It’s up to them whether they want to go there or not.”

“If the players want to drink beer, they can drink it, but if they decide to go out and do what they want to do, that’s up to them.”

It was said the Robins were still in good form following their World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos, but Peters disputed this.

“There’s no excuse for that. That’s not it, that’s not what we just offered,” Peters said.

“If you perform and lose, you might not be able to make excuses like running out of gas, but that performance is no excuse.

“I’m not going to sit here and make excuses for what happened last week and things like that, because it’s going to get even tougher.

“As we all need to look at ourselves, each of us needs to look at ourselves and think about why we performed the way we did and how we can improve.

“There were people there who were not themselves. We need to find out why.”
