Leeds Rhinos’ Micah Thibo put on a show and scored four tries as they defeated Hull KR 56-8 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

35,500 Rugby League handover tickets were sold in the US, with Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR fans making up the majority of those sales, and their voices were by far the loudest, demonstrating the intense passion that Super League has.

Leeds Rhinos led the team throughout the first half and were rewarded with converted tries from Brodie Croft, Keenan Palacia and Ryan Hall, a double from Sibo, a leading role from Jake Connor and converting four of five kicks to lead 28-0 overall after 40 minutes.

Leeds continued where they left off in the second half, reaching 56 points with Thibo’s third and fourth tries, Croft’s second and a few barrels over from Cooper Jenkins, with Connor also showing perfect coordination.

Hull KR managed to score a heartbreaking try thanks to the efforts of Joe Burgess, but they were still without a win in the Super League after two rounds, so their performance seemed to put them back on track with their victory over Brisbane Broncos in the World Cup Challenge.

Erasure’s Andy Bell fires up the crowd ahead of Leeds vs Hull KR in Las Vegas

Leeds put poor KR to the sword with a phenomenal performance

After Erasure frontman Andy Bell got things going before kick-off with a performance of ‘A Little Respect’ in front of Hull KR fans, it was time for the Robins and Rhinos to get into the action.

The first 10 minutes were a battle of attrition, but it was time for the Rhinos to come out on top thanks to one player in particular.

Sibo runs for the first try in Las Vegas

Sibo scored twice on his debut for Leeds and showed off his skills once again on the Las Vegas stage. He used his physicality in the 11th and 16th minutes to wreak havoc on the Rhinos faithful, with Connor scoring both to take a 12-0 advantage.

Just seven minutes later Croft used some dancing footwork to get under the sticks and Connor cleared the way with a brilliant 40/20 to give his side an 18-0 advantage.

Frankly, the KR was unstable all over the place, had poor handling, and errors left it firmly under the pump.

In the 29th minute, Palasia barged in on Tyrone May for a goal, and Connor converted to put the Rhinos ahead 24-0.

It didn’t end there either, as Cibo made a huge break downfield after recovering a short dropout and was stopped short of the line. From there, the Rhinos skipped the ball to the opposite edge with a looping pass that Hall walked in for a 28-0 lead.

Hull KR thought they had hit back through Jez Litten, but interference in the build-up meant the try was canceled and they were heavily behind at the break.

Leeds continued to dominate after the restart, but suffered heavy losses due to Hull KR’s poor defensive effort.

First, Croft did his second dance in the 51st minute and Harry Newman had a huge celebration in front of the Hull KR fans.

Then the usually reliable Tom Davies knocked the kick in and Leeds picked it up and fed the ball to Sibo to complete his hat-trick. Connor made both goals to give his team a 40-0 lead with just over 20 minutes left.

Burgess then finally got Hull KR on the scoresheet, but Seabo was far from done. Leeds again had Burgess out wide to make it four tries at Las Vegas, and another good kick from Connor led them to 46-6.

Jenkins then decided he wanted to get in on the try-scoring action and acquired two similar to the London Baths, which Chris Hankinson modified to finish the job of destroying the newly crowned World Club Champions.

Player of the Match Micah Shibo…

“Our focus all week was to come here and make a statement, and we did that.

“The players, each of us did our job, so that’s good.

“We said it was our job as wingers to take those chances, so we did that.

“At the same time, Brad (Arthur) was hard on me. He was like a father figure to me, so it’s good to have someone around to support you through the good times and the down times.”

“We’re just going to take it week by week and hopefully continue to get wins and celebrate.”
