West Ham may cancel the 2029 World Athletics Championships at London Stadium, with British track and field star Keeley Hodgkinson declaring: “The British team will bring back more medals to that stadium than we have seen in the whole of West Ham’s history.”

British athletics stars Keely Hodgkinson and Dina Asher-Smith have hilariously criticized West Ham after it emerged they could block London from hosting the 2029 World Athletics Championships.

The club reportedly has no intention of giving up use of the stadium for as long as necessary.

Hodgkinson won gold and silver medals in the 800 meters at the Olympics and recently won the World Indoor Championships.

Hodgkinson highlighted the story on his X account, writing: “The GB team will bring back more medals to the stadium than we have seen in the entire history of West Ham.”

Asher Smith, himself a three-time Olympic medalist who won gold in the 200m at the 2019 World Championships, also appealed to West Ham on social media for support for the event.

“Literally today at the Olympic Park to get things started for the London 2028/29 Games,” she wrote.

“West Ham don’t play us.”

The London Stadium was built for the 2012 Olympics and was the setting for some iconic Olympic moments before becoming the home of West Ham United Football Club.

The stadium continues to host athletics events, including the 2017 World Championships.
