Matt Fitzpatrick finished the second day at RBC Heritage with an 8-under 63 and a one-stroke lead.
The British player had a bogey-free second round at Hilton Head, making eight birdies, including sinking a 36-foot putt on the 15th hole.
Fitzpatrick, the 2022 U.S. Open champion, started Friday in a six-way tie for third place after an opening round of 65.
The 31-year-old was at the top of the leaderboard at 14 under at the halfway stage, one shot behind Norway’s Viktor Hovland, who remained in second place with a second-round score of 65.
The night’s leader, Ludwig Aberg, suffered three bogeys on the back nine, dropping him to a tie for fourth place.
Scotland’s Robert McIntyre shot a 68 to end the day six strokes behind Fitzpatrick, while world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot a 67 and was seven shots off the pace.
