Chelsea are in talks with Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Xabi Alonso to replace Liam Rosenior this summer.

Chelsea believe they will have more quality managers in place this summer than the last time they appointed a manager between seasons.

Kieran McKenna was also on the shortlist when Enzo Maresca took over as manager in June 2024, but neither manager had any Premier League experience at the time.

Tim Sherwood has told Soccer Saturday that Chelsea need to change their ownership model to avoid an endless stream of managerial sackings.

Chelsea are currently looking for a player with Premier League experience or a proven track record at a high level.

Iraola will leave Bournemouth this summer, Alonso is unemployed and Silva’s contract with Fulham is set to expire in two months.

Chelsea are in no hurry to make a name, with Callum MacFarlane set to remain in charge until the end of the season.

Merce doubts about important Chelsea manager appointment

Paul Merson has doubts about a “top manager” becoming Chelsea’s new manager and says the next head coach will be “thankful” to the club’s manager rather than the other way around.

Chelsea fan Melson believes the days of the west London club appointing big-name managers like Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti are over.

Asked who he would like to see for the Chelsea job, Merson told Sky Sports News: “I’ve heard from some Newcastle fans that Eddie Howe is under pressure. I would choose Eddie Howe.”

“My problem is with Chelsea now. I think with the current situation and the way they are being run, they will always get a manager who will be grateful to be in charge of Chelsea instead of a top-draw (manager).”

“I think there was a time when you had Mourinho,[Antonio]Contes,[Thomas]Tuchels, Ancelotis, top, top managers who the club were grateful to have as managers of the club. Now they’re looking at managers who are grateful to come and manage Chelsea because of the way the club is run and the way the club is.”

“Bournemouth’s (Andoni) Iraola is a very good manager, but managers like this will come, they will see and they will leave. Chelsea have lost every Premier League game this season. How can we turn that around? This is a high It’s not an aging football team. This is one of the youngest teams in the Premier League. So it’s a concern that they’re being overtaken every game of football. So I think the top, top managers will look at that and think they’ve got a lot of work to do.

“They need some experienced players. They have some players that shouldn’t be there. They need players.”

“This is a huge job, but I don’t know if one of the big players will take it on.”
