Leeds Rhinos strengthened their position at the top of the Super League with a 40-22 win over Wakefield Trinity at Headingley, with Micah Thibo scoring a hat-trick.

Jake Connor, who scored 16 points and played a direct role in four of his team’s tries, was a game-changer in a game where the Rhinos were briefly reduced to 11 men early in the second half after Sibo and Ash Hundley were both sin-binned.

But with Brad Arthur’s side looking to be strong contenders for the League Leaders’ Shield, Sibo is set to steal the headlines again this season by topping the try-scoring charts with 17 goals.

The result was overshadowed by a five-minute incident in which Wakefield center Cameron Scott was taken off the pitch on a stretcher after extensive treatment on the pitch.

Scott appeared to be knocked unconscious in a harmless collision with Rhinos prop Keenan Palasia, resulting in the match being postponed for just under 15 minutes.

Bill Leyland put the Saints ahead, then Owen Dagnall scored twice, giving Saints a 16-0 lead, but Jesse Dee scored twice and the gap was reduced to just six points at half-time.

Alex Walmsley, Jack Welsby, Jake Davis and Nene McDonald all came on in the final quarter to secure a hard-fought victory for Paul Lawrie’s side, who remain level with Leeds in second place on 14 points after nine games.
