Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler has signed a new three-year contract.

The 33-year-old’s previous contract with the Seagulls was due to expire in the summer of 2027, but he has now committed his future to Brighton until the summer of 2029.

Hürzeler’s new contract comes amid a growing list of fans both at home and in Germany. He has been on the radar of Bundesliga teams, with Bayer Leverkusen also believed to be very interested in him.

However, Brighton owner Tony Bloom has shown his commitment to Hürzeler, who joined from St. Pauli in the summer of 2024 and became the youngest permanent head coach in the Premier League at the age of 31.

Brighton, in his second season in charge, are eighth in the Premier League with three games remaining and are fighting to qualify for Europe.

After signing his new contract, Hürzeler said: “I absolutely love working at this club and living in this city, and I’m delighted to have agreed to a new contract.”

“I am honored to receive such a long-term commitment from the club, which further strengthens my desire to succeed in achieving our shared long-term vision.

“From the beginning, we have always been focused on establishing our identity, developing our team, challenging the establishment and raising the bar every day. I’m proud of what we’ve done so far, but I’m even more excited about what’s to come.”

Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has agreed a new three-year contract until June 2029.

In early February, some fans called for the German player to be sacked following a 1-0 home defeat to rivals Crystal Palace.

However, with six wins from nine matches, Hürzeler improved his team’s fortunes and was able to do well in the race for European qualification.

A deeper connection with his fan base has improved the atmosphere at recent home games and has undoubtedly helped his cause.

“Since his appointment, Fabian has continued the club’s progress over recent seasons with consistent performances on the pitch and established a clear playing identity,” said Bloom.

“This season, he has built on the foundations laid in his first season, when he led us to an impressive eighth place. During his time as head coach, the team has shown resilience, intensity and control. With three games remaining, we are pushing towards a strong finish.”

“Fabian’s principles and approach are in line with our values as a club and we are delighted to have agreed this new contract extension, which reflects our commitment to our shared long-term vision.”

“Hürzeler is a coach with a very bright future.”

Hürzeler will aim to improve on last season’s eighth place and win European football for the second time in the club’s history.

As they are two points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth, they could match the best sixth-place finish in Premier League history, and sixth place may be enough to qualify for the Champions League.

Brighton vice-chairman and chief executive Paul Barber said: “Fabian’s leadership qualities are very clear to us and over the past two seasons he has proven that he is an exceptional coach with a very bright future.”

“We are delighted that he will be here with us in the short, medium and long term. Fabian is highly respected by staff and players across the club and the game. His work is underpinned by a clear vision, work ethic and strategy.”

“We are honored to work with him. Our focus now is to do everything we can to help him succeed as we plan for a bright future.”
